PART 3: DISCOVERY
It’s common for people to set new year’s resolutions. It’s also common for those resolutions to be short lived. Prioritizing behavior change can be good…but focusing on character change is better. The following steps help shift the focus on the person you want to BE at the end of this year.
WHO DO YOU ADMIRE?
What family members, mentors, coaches, ministers, friends, historical figures, etc. do you admire? What attributes and character traits do you see in them?
WHY DO YOU ADMIRE THEM?
Look over the list of people that you made. What common character traits do you see? Why do you admire these traits? If you could copy over one trait from each person, what would it be?
WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM THEM?
With these traits in mind, answer this question, "What kind of person do you hope to be at the end of this year?” Look over the character traits above and work out an answer to that question.
WHAT IS ONE WORD YOU CAN FOCUS ON?
Look over the list of character traits you laid out. What is one word you keep coming back to? What word captures your attention? Highlight that word and look up its meaning. What does this say about the type of person you want to become? This one word will be a focal point for you this year.
