INTRODUCTION
In this episode of the Resilient Lineage podcast, Milo and Olivia continue their journey through the Tabernacle as a spiritual formation model. They focus on the Menorah, diving deep into its history, craftsmanship, and purpose, and reflect on the virtue of temperance as it relates to spiritual life.

TEMPERANCE allows for the constant tending of the soul so that God’s presence and truth directs the power that exists in one’s life.

OLIVE TREES ARE…

  • A symbol of LIFE

  • A symbol of BLESSING

  • A symbol of BEAUTY

  • A sign of CELEBRATION

GOD’S WORD/TRUTH AS LIGHT

  • Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

  • Psalm 119:130 - The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.

  • Proverbs 6:23 - For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life.

  • Psalm 43:3 - Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!

JESUS AS THE LIGHT

  • John 1:4-5 - In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

  • John 8:12 - Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

  • John 12:46 - I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.

WE ARE THE LIGHT

  • Matthew 5:14 - You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

  • 2 Corinthians 4:6 - For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

  • Ephesians 5:8-9 - For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true).

TEMPERANCE is not DENIAL of desire, it is the right ORDERING of desires to serve God’s purposes.

TEMPERANCE is the virtue of moderation; the practice of self-control in the midst of abundance that satisfies desire.

TEMPERANCE AND THE MENORAH

  • The THOUGHTFUL practice of SETTING the conditions to know God’s truth

  • The CONSISTENT practice of MEASURED living
    by knowing one’s personal capacity

  • The OBEDIENT practice of TRUSTING God’s truth
    amidst the darkness

  • The STEADFAST practice of FAITHFUL living
    day in and day out
