INTRODUCTION
In this episode, Milo and Olivia dive into a deep discussion about the daily choices that either draw us closer to God or distance us from Him. Drawing from 1 Samuel 8:4–7, they reflect on how Israel’s rejection of God as their king mirrors modern struggles with submission, self-rule, and spiritual discernment.
Every day is marked by a series of choices that are defined by either choosing Jesus or rejecting him.
What are the signs I have made a practice of rejecting God?
I carry HOSTILITY towards God
You reason against God's existence, wishes He were not, forms unworthy notions of Him, and endeavors to erase all memory of Him from the mind. This kind of hostility extends to God's perfection, denying His omniscience, questioning His justice and faithfulness, or despising His goodness and abusing His grace and mercy.
Romans 8:7 declares, "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God”…I PRUSUE selfish desires and cravings
The third quality characterizing a flesh-driven life is the relentless pursuit of selfish desires and worldly cravings.
Ephesians 2:3 “All of us…at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts". The flesh-driven life is consumed with fulfilling personal appetites rather than seeking God's will.I REFUSE to submit to God's Law
A second defining quality of the flesh-driven life is its constitutional inability to submit to God's law. Romans 8:7 emphasizes that the carnal mind "is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be". This is not simply unwillingness but actual incapacity.
Romans 8:8 “they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” Those controlled by the flesh find themselves fundamentally unable to satisfy God because their very nature opposes His requirements. This inability stems from the flesh's inherent rebellion against divine authority and its pursuit of self-serving desires rather than God-honoring obedience.I FOCUS on the temporal rather than the eternal
This temporal focus manifests as being "absorbed in self.” The absorbed self prioritizes immediate gratification, worldly success, and material concerns over spiritual growth, eternal values, and divine purposes. This orientation leads to spiritual death because it disconnects the person from the source of true life - relationship with God through His Spirit.
Romans 8:5 contrasts these two orientations: "For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit".
The Spirit filled life will REJECT…
I should reject every BELIEF that does not conform to God’s truth for my life
I should reject every ATTITUDE that does not facilitate God’s authority over my life
I should reject every PRACTICE that does not demonstrate God’s will for my life
