INTRODUCTION
In this episode, Milo and Olivia look at how we build a life of intentional service to others. They dive into actionable ways to serve others and live out the Great Commission in everyday life.
CENTRAL IDEA
To live out the great commission requires the power of the Holy Spirit to lead me in discerning how to be an effective witness regardless of familiarity or proximity.
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
WHAT KEEPS PEOPLE FROM SERVING?
Self-Interest: people prioritize their own needs, desires, or success over helping others, leading to a focus on personal gain.
Social Norms: the way we were raised or where we currently live shapes the priority of serving others.
Time Constraints: Busy schedules and commitments can make it difficult for people to find time to serve others.
Scarcity Mindset: A belief that resources (time, money, emotional energy) are limited can lead to reluctance in giving to others.
Lack of Awareness: Some individuals may not recognize the needs of others within their community or environment.
Cynicism: Past negative experiences or seeing the ineffectiveness of charitable efforts can lead to a lack of motivation to serve.
Personal Struggles: personal problems can limit one's capacity to focus on helping others.
FAMILIARITY
Familiar - a trust in the values, beliefs, priorities, and choices that generates a high level of comfort and safety.
