Seeking the God of Victory (EP #101)

SUMMARY
The God you seek will determine the victory you experience, and in this episode I’m inviting you to move from spiritual browsing to seeking the God of victory with a resilient, spiritually ready soul.

SUBSCRIBE TODAY

The God you seek will determine the victory you experience. It will determine your source of inner fortitude, your moral clarity, your mental endurance, and the determination of will to act sacrificially.

Spiritual Readiness is “the strength of spirit that enables the warfighter to accomplish the mission with honor. It is the will to fight and the ability to overcome adversity in the moment of combat or crisis.”

We do that in four ways:

1.Connection with Divine

2.Participation in a faith community

3.Living with meaning, purpose, and values

4.Sacrificing for the greater good

TWO EXTREMES

Extreme #1: Spiritual Browsing
is the practice of sampling spiritual truths, experiences, and communities based on personal preference and felt-need. Faith is consumer option, curated to fit one’s lifestyle rather than transforming it.

Extreme #2 Seeking the God of Victory
is the practice of pursuing a life of service and obedience to God with the belief that his way leads to ultimate victory.

THE STRUCTURES THAT ORDER OUR LIFE

Spiritual Browsing Operate by Permission Structures
A permission structure is a set of reasons or justifications that makes it feel acceptable and consistent for someone to change their stance or behavior without feeling disloyal to their identity, values, or group.

Seeking the God of Victory Operate by Obedience Structures
An obedience structure looks to an external authority that obligates another to act or think in a certain way regardless of personal preferences or sacrifices.

OUTCOMES
Spiritual Browsing Outcomes
A fragile and shallow faith that is easily bruised, quickly disillusioned by suffering, defensive when challenged, overly dependent on feelings, unstable under pressure, and highly vulnerable to false teaching and spiritual burnout.

Seeking the God of Victory Outcomes
A robust and resilient soul, anchored in God’s character, able to endure hardship without imploding, can face uncertainty without panic, receives correction and not collapse in self loathing, and walks in costly obedience with deep, quiet joy and peace

A LIFE STYLE OF VICTORY

  1. Submitting my beliefs and values to the authority of Scripture

  2. Ordering my relationships according to God’s design

  3. Giving my attention to what God is doing NOW [Shame/Fear]

  4. Avoiding activities that cool my passion for God
Whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes off your relish of spiritual things; in short, whatever increases the strength and authority of your body over your mind; that thing is sin to you, however innocent it may be in itself. – Susana Wesley

  5. Stewarding my resources for a return that is greater than what I have today

  6. Crafting  my skills and abilities for a cause greater than themselves

VICTORY IN TWO DOMAINS

DOMAIN #1: INTERNAL VICTORY
The character and integrity of my mind, body and spirit.

  • Victory over an addiction

  • Victory over a character flaws

  • Victory over shame

  • Victory over fear and anxiety

  • Victory over bitterness and unforgiveness

  • Victory over false beliefs and self-deception

DOMAIN #2: EXTERNAL VICTORY
Overcoming obstacles and challenges that would thwart your efforts to be the person God has destined you to be. Embracing and maximizing opportunities that will expedite the progress God has for you and his Kingdom.
